Local photographer Scott Martin and Massachusetts shooter Lance Keimig are masters of moonlight. Their haunting Fotoseptiembre exhibition at Rendon Photography and Fine Art presents strangely brilliant nightscapes captured through time-lapse photography, but the dream-like effects are abetted with a few lighting tricks of their own. On a hillside in West Texas, a glowing phone booth marks the night sky; in the distant beyond, an anomalous fireplug sits among cactus. From a gashed ravine in the earth comes not shadow, but a warm river of light, hinting at lava lakes or the fires of hell. An old Airstream trailer abandoned on wood pilings pulsates orange as if a desert sunrise was trapped inside. Keimig is a widely-collected photographer and past-curator of the Three Columns Gallery at Harvard University. His book Night Photography – Finding Your Way In The Dark, was published by Focal Press in 2010.
