State Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer, D-San Antonio, took to social media Tuesday to troll a likely rival in the race to become Bexar County’s next district attorney.
In a TikTok clip shared Tuesday, Martinez Fischer accused criminal defense attorney and former Bexar County Assistant District Attorney Jason Wolff of “crying Wolff.”
Martinez Fischer’s TikTok incorporates from video Wolff shared on the platform in which he airs grievances against his uncle, former Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff, who allegedly opted to endorse Martinez Fischer in the Democratic primary.
“I am the best candidate, and I think the voters are going to see that,” Wolff says in the footage as Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” plays in the background. “The game that you play is a game people are sick and tired of. Game on.”
The clip then transitions to Martinez Fischer, who looks at his phone with a confused expression.
“Damn, bro,” the state rep says, directly addressing camera. “Are you crying, Wolf?”
The song “Still D.R.E.” by Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre plays as Martinez Fischer fades out of view.
Both Martinez Fischer and Wolff have expressed interest in running for the Bexar County DA’s seat, which will be left open by current DA Joe Gonzales’ retirement.
While the two attorneys have launched exploratory committees, neither has officially signed paperwork to run as of press time. On Wednesday, Wolff told the Current he’ll file as soon as he hires a treasurer.
Martinez Fischer plans to run as a Democrat, while Wolff will file as an independent.
The TikTok back-and-forth between Martinez Fischer and Wolff suggests this DA’s race could be unlike any previously seen in Bexar County.
Besides being a criminal defense attorney at the CALFAS Law Group, Wolff is also an outspoken, at times controversial, social media personality with more than 11,000 followers and 100,000 views on TikTok.
His most recent online controversy came after he called current DA Gonzales a “pussy” in an online clip. He later doubled down on his comments in an interview with The Current.
Martinez Fischer also has a large social media following. However, his dig at Wolff appears uncharacteristically pointed, perhaps indicating that his gloves are off.
Criminal defense attorney Shannon Locke, who also boasts a large social media following, also is gearing up to join the race as a Democrat. A campaign spokesperson said Locke will file and launch his campaign later this week.
