The temporarily shuttered Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC) will return to downtown San Antonio on Jan. 29, according to officials with UT-San Antonio, which operates the museum.

Frost Bank Tower, 111 W. Houston St., will house the ITC until it’s relocated into a permanent home. The museum will welcome visitors 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays, while Wednesdays are reserved for school field trips, according to its website.

Admission will be free during the first week of reopening, and adult will pay $10 thereafter. After opening week, admission for military members, senior citizens and children will run $5. Meanwhile, UT-San Antonio faculty and children under 5 will get in for free.

UT-San Antonio officials closed the ITC, which was previously housed in the Texas Pavilion at Hemisfair, in spring 2024. When explaining the decision, university officials cited structural concerns and maintenance costs associated with the Texas Pavilion building, built for the 1968 World’s Fair.

The Texas Pavilion site has since been demolished, and the City of San Antonio is expected to either buy or lease the 13.5-acre parcel for a new downtown Spurs arena voters approved in November.

UT-San Antonio officials are still searching for a site where the school can construct a new permanent home for the ITC. However, a timetable for that process is still unclear.
