Gov. Greg Abbott on Sunday expanded Texas’ disaster declaration for the ongoing winter storm to include Bexar and 84 additional counties. The total number of counties included in the declaration now stands at 219.
“Communities across the state have been impacted by this weekend’s winter weather,” Abbott said in an emailed statement. “I am updating my disaster declaration to include additional counties to help more Texans during these freezing temperatures.”
So far, Texas officials have deployed more than 10,900 responders and more than 4,900 vehicles and pieces of equipment to help people affected by the storm, according to Abbott. The governor advised Texans to avoid unnecessary travel and to seek out warming shelters, if need be.
Winter weather information is available statewide at the Texas Department of Emergency Management Disaster Portal, and winter weather safety tips are available at TexasReady.gov. State information on road conditions also available online.
