Buddy Guy, one of the last pioneers of electric blues, will bring his Buddy Guy 90 tour to San Antonio’s Majestic Theatre on Thursday, Aug. 27.

The tour follows Guy’s ninth Grammy win — Best Traditional Blues Album for Ain’t Done with the Blues — and the SA stop will come shortly after legendary guitarist-vocalist’s 90th birthday. Guy is also is riding high after playing a pivotal role in Ryan Coogler’s critically acclaimed vampire film Sinners.

Tickets for the show go on sale at 10 a.m. this Friday via the Majestic box office.

Born in Lettsworth, Louisiana, Guy worked Chicago bars and club, becoming a key architect of the West Side sound that brought gritty rural blues to an urban audience. His searing guitar work and soulful vocal delivery influenced generations of followers, from Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan to John Mayer.

Starting in the ’70s, the Guy’s screeching, rapid-fire guitar style and consummate showmanship won over fans outside the traditional blues scene, and he’s since been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Released last year, Guy’s Ain’t Done With the Blues features collaborations with artists including The Blind Boys of Alabama, Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram and Joe Bonamassa.

Prices unknown, 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, Majestic Theatre, 224 E. Houston St., (210) 226-3333, majesticempire.com.
