A gorgeously preserved example of Queen Anne Victorian architecture recently listed for in San Antonio’s coveted King William neighborhood was built by a member of a prominent merchant family.

The house, which sits atop a corner lot in the historic district, is on the market for $2.2 million — a slight price cut from when it was previously listed for $2.3 million in 2025.

The three-bedroom, two-bath residence was built in 1885 by George Alexander Chabot, son of prominent cotton, wool and hides merchant George Stooks Chabot, who also happened to be a former member of the British foreign services in Mexico.

Following in his father’s footsteps, George Chabot the younger became a prominent crockery merchant, and built this house right across the street from his father’s, where much of the Chabot family resided.

The structure features fine examples of delicate Victorian millwork, including decorative spindles, balusters and other intricate details.

The dwelling’s hexagonal porch overlooks the neighborhood from its plush corner lot. Inside, an elaborately spindled archway and coffered ceilings are preserved as original details — as is the elaborately carved Victorian fireplace.

Similarly, updates feel right at home in the space. Those include a gold-footed bathtub in one of its bathrooms and the Victorian shade of emerald green in its large, modern kitchen. Throughout the house, Victorian details continue, such as beadboard wainscotting, transom doors between rooms, sumptuous wallpaper and other elegant features.

However, outside is where the Victorian illusion truly ends, with a thoroughly modern pool and spa area, where a cabana with outdoor kitchen comes with the modern luxuries of a mounted TV and built-in grill. A former carriage house has also been converted into an additional apartment on the property.
