A new interactive exhibit is bringing the cosmos to downtown San Antonio.

Smithsonian Starstruck: An Immersive Experience opened Thursday, July 2, at the Shops at Rivercenter, offering a virtual-reality journey through space designed to bring scientific discovery to the public.

The new exhibit, developed with the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory research center, lets visitors explore galaxies, black holes and the lifecycles of stars through an interactive, free-roam format. Real astronomical data and research create a walkable, sensory environment featuring not just visuals, but also sound and touch.

“The universe is within reach,” organizers said in a press statement. “Starstruck brings Smithsonian science and storytelling into an immersive, transportive format, extending the institution’s longstanding mission of sharing knowledge far beyond its physical museums.”

Visitors experience findings from observatories such as the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescopes. The hour-long exhibition includes a 40-minute VR experience and allows groups of up to six to enter at a time. The presentation showcases humanity’s place in the cosmos while blending education and entertainment. The exhibit seeks to communicate complex scientific concepts in an accessible way to visitors 10 and older.

Tickets are available through the Fever website and app.

$20.40-$23.80, 10 a.m.-6:40 p.m. Thursday-Sunday, Shops at Rivercenter, 849 E. Commerce St., feverup.com/m/665850.
