After an epic seven-game series in last season’s Western Conference Finals, the most exciting rivalry in the NBA resumes on opening night this Tuesday when the Spurs square off against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Heading into training camp, reigning league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander lamented the loss of longtime teammates Lu Dort, Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins, who were traded by OKC in the offseason for a slew of second-round draft picks.
San Antonio added veteran free agent Tobias Harris to its young core, whose connection to Spurs General Manager Brian Wright goes back to their time together with the Orlando Magic. Entering his 16th season, Harris adds size and versatility at the power forward position. He was also a key contributor in Detroit’s run to the top of the Eastern Conference standings last season.
“I pride myself on team chemistry and making sure the group understands we can’t go anywhere if we’re not together,” Harris told reporters on Media Day.
