Plenty of folks say San Antonio is a big city with a small town feel – which makes it easy for transplants to feel right at home here. That being said, there’s lots of ways for new folks and non-natives to be just as puro as the 2-1-0 born and bred San Antonian. Here’s just some ways how you – whether you’re a local or just ended up here – can show off just how SA you are.
You make judgments off of people based on where they went to high school.
Even if you weren’t born and raised here, you know that “where did you go to high school?” is a loaded question.

Beamer fans will only ever watch WOAI. Anyone still loyal to KENS 5 ‘cause you love Chris Marrou and Fred Lozano just that much?

“We bought the house in ‘99 ‘cause that’s when we all got wasted at my house during the championship.” Good times.

1105 Nogalitos St, (210) 227-7005
Forget Olive Garden – if you want to be treated like family, go to Maria’s Cafe. This cozy cafe may not be posh, you’ll be satisfied by everything you eat from start to finish. The salsa is just the right amount of spicy, so be sure to pour it on just like you like it to whatever breakfast tacos you choose.

Just don’t. Like, why would you even want to? You’re gonna get all stepped on. Your chanclas are gonna get all dirty. And we bet you’ll lose at least one chancla, if not both. Do yourself a favor and stay away from chanclas for any and all Fiesta events. The same goes for heels.

Some people just won’t get it.

We’ve all seen the pictures on social media of trucks wildly packed to unsafe heights, without rope and stacked in daring ways. This may happen in other cities, but it’s definitely a regular thing here in San Antonio.

Are you Team Ray’s Drive-In? Or Team Henry’s Puffy Taco?
Photo via Instagram / gdanielagalarzaThe thought of Coach Pop retiring makes you want to cry.
And you most likely lost it when Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili retired. (We’re still not over it.)

“I’m the Texas HAMMER! I’m tougher than a junkyard DOG!”

It’s “Bill Miller,” but whatever.

It’s too damn cold to function on these rare days.

On the Riverwalk Level, 421 E Commerce St, (210) 224-8484, boudros.com
Take a stroll down the River Walk and find your way to Boudro’s. Skip the wait by reserving your table ahead of time so you can enjoy bites like the famed tableside guacamole and prickly pear margarita from this Texas bistro. Plan ahead and you can even enjoy your meal from a barge as it makes its way down the river!
Photo via Instagram / boudrostexasbistroYou’ve met at least one Castro twin.
We wouldn’t be surprised if you met both.

You know, like a go-to lady for tamales, another for buñuelos, maybe even a guy for brisket.
Photo via Instagram / luciazartistryHaving so many spots that know how to make delicious pan dulce
Trust us, we’re picky about where we get pan dulce. San Antonio definitely has its spots that just do it better. Now imagine living in a city that maybe has one panaderia. We think it’s terrible, too.
