This Saturday, 9/13, North Star Mall is hosting a Boxtrolls Cardboard Challenge. North Star is teaming up with Magic 105.3 to test your creativity by inviting you to create a cardboard masterpiece inspired by the film.
Boxtrolls, which will be released on 9/26, is based on Alan Snow’s children’s novel, Here Be Monsters! The 3D stop-motion film, brought to you by the makers of Coraline and ParaNorman, follows a young boy named Eggs who was raised by a bunch of trolls who live in boxes, hence the name boxtrolls.
The Boxtrolls Cardboard Challenge requires participants to immerse themselves in the boxtrolls’ world by fabricating a boxy creation using cardboard and other recycled materials which North Star is happy to provide. As far as I know, there are no specific requirements as to what type of thing your cardboard creation should be. Suggested creations: cardboard vehicle, cardboard house, a new cardboard roommate to live with you in your cardboard house and drive you places in your cardboard vehicle so you don’t ever have to deal with real fleshy people again. Or you could just design your own boxtroll.
If art for art’s sake isn’t enough incentive for you to participate, then you should know there are prizes to be won. Two artists will win “What’s in the Box” prizes which include Xbox One consoles (those are still priced at over $300). Every other participant will be entered to win an “Imagination Box” prize which will be filled with $3,500 worth of swag—that’s a ridiculous amount of swag.
The challenge will take place at 10:00 am on the mall’s first floor, below the food court. Participants are encouraged to share pictures of their creations using the hashtag #TheBoxtrollsCC.
