The homegrown Ghoulish Book Festival, a convention celebrating horror fiction and all things creepy, will slither into downtown San Antonio this weekend.

Organized by Alamo City book store and small press Ghoulish Books, the gathering will run Friday-Saturday, March 14-15, and feature authors and creators including Chris Panatier, Abby Goldsmith, Rob Saucedo, Susan Snyder, Zach Chapman, Matt Blairstone, Juan Manuel Perez and more taking part in panel discussions, workshops and readings.

Attendees also can browse a vendor room featuring authors, publishers and more selling their creepy goods. For your eerie entertainment, Ak’chamel — a collective known for mixing costumes, ritual and eerie music — will perform Saturday evening during a mass author signing. The fun will be spread through three levels of the 1900s-era Hermann Sons building, which has haunted vibes aplenty.

Badges for the Ghoulish Book Festival are available online, as is a schedule. Badges are only required to attend the panels, workshops and readings. The vendor room and author signing are free for anyone.

For the sake of transparency, we note that Ghoulish Books co-owner Max Booth III is an occasional Current contributor.

$50, Friday-Saturday, March 14-15, 2024, Hermann Sons Home Association, 525 S. St. Mary’s St., (210) 570-7224, ghoulishbookfest.com.
