“Gold and silver are very hard to find, love is rarer it don’t shine,” sings Liz Foster on the pretty, exultant final track of the Trisha’s debut LP, High, Wide & Handsome. Equally rare are the talents of these amazing women; each writes in their own distinct manner, and they harmonize like angels. They first came together in 2009 to perform a tribute for Savannah Welch’s father, songwriter Kevin Welch. They knew immediately they were onto something. A five-song EP arrived in 2010 with a strong bluegrass/folk flavor abetted by the extraordinary gospel blues boogie of “Trouble About My Soul.” There’s nothing quite that rockin’ on the new album, but plenty of gospel-soul flavor of an Americana strain somewhere between Laurel Canyon and Nashville. They recruit some terrific co-writers for help (Jason Eady, Owen Temple, Bruce Robison). It’s a true family affair for Welch, whose dad and brother also lend their writing skills to a couple tracks. The women’s personalities mix with the co-writers to produce a fine array of very different tracks still cut from the same spool of cloth.
