On Friday morning, workers at the Alamodome began installing the 381 wooden panels that make up the basketball court for the NCAA men’s Final Four Tournament.

The widely watched college hoops contest will begin Saturday, April 5, with the national championship taking place Monday, April 7. San Antonio has hosted seven previous Final Fours starting in 1998. City officials expect more than 100,000 visitors for the 2025 tournament.

The 140-by-70-foot court for the men’s Final Four is made of northern hard maple, and each of its panels weighs 165 pounds, according to Michigan-based Connor Sports. The assembled floor weighs 58,000 pounds in total.

Connor Sports created the panels for the 2025 court beginning last fall at its mill in rural Michigan. In January, the company shipped the pieces to QHF Sports in San Marcos, which painted and coated them. Each year, Connor produces a completely new court for both the men’s and women’s Final Four tournaments.

The NCAA Final Four courts typically take four hours to install using a team of Connor supervisors and as many as a dozen local workers, company officials said.

The men’s NCAA Tournament began with 68 teams, but is now narrowed down to 16. Games played this weekend will determine who makes it to the final showdown in San Antonio.
