With its full-day lineup of animal-themed autumnal activities, this Saturday’s Dogtober Fall Festival is a one-stop-shop for pet lovers.

Attendees are likely to bring home tail-waggingly terrific memories — and maybe pick up a new four-legged friend along the way. Some 200 animals will be up for adoption at the event hosted by San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS).

This year, SAACS is rolling out its Passport 4 Paws program, which allows prospective pet owners to bond with shelter animals by taking them through an agility course, pumpkin patch, Puppicino bar and other on-site attractions.

Adopted pets will be sterilized, microchipped and vaccinated before leaving the premises. Trainers, veterinarians and other experts will be present to answer any questions attendees — whether first-time adopters or seasoned pet parents — might have.

Dogtober also promises an abundance of entertainment options that suit any member of the family, regardless of age or species. Take in a dog-trick show, attend a “Puppies and Pilates” class, visit the “Furtune Teller” or peruse a marketplace of more than 40 local vendors.

A pet costume contest will kick off at 2:30 p.m. with online pre-registration required.

Free, 11 a.m.-7:30 p.m., San Antonio Animal Care Services, 4710 State Highway 151, (407) 207-4738, visitsanantonio.com.
