Last year, I accompanied a class of 20 4-year-olds to see Scruggs, and while I enjoyed the show as much as they did, I must admit I got tired of hearing about it for the rest of the school year: "Can we see him again?" "Play the CD one more time." "How come you don't have puppets like he does?"
Not content to merely sit on stage and sing, Scruggs uses gigantic puppets, special lighting effects, and a healthy dose of audience participation to keep the sold-out auditorium happy. My class took approximately a dozen field trips last year, but this was one they could not stop talking about.
Surrounded by a whole new crew of excited students, I am returning again in 2003, prepared for the three months of unsolicited rave reviews that will follow. Parents, grandparents, teachers, and anyone in care of children 3 to 8 years of age: Do your child and yourself a favor and check Scruggs out. It will give you both something to talk about for a long, long time. •
