Over the summer, James Borrego quietly made NBA history when he signed a four-year deal with the Hornets, becoming the league’s first Latino full-time head coach. A native of Albuquerque, Borrego sandwiched two stints in San Antonio with a turn as the interim head coach of the Orlando Magic. After signing with the Hornets, Borrego wisely forged a relationship with his ascending point guard Kemba Walker and successfully lured Spurs legend Tony Parker to Charlotte to provide a veteran presence.

With Walker and Parker running the point, the Hornets look poised to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. After recently expressing his affinity for the Alamo City, where Parker plans to settle after retirement, a warm homecoming is in order for the greatest point guard in franchise history.
