Texans have a favorite beer, according to a new study, and it’s not Lone Star or Shiner Bock.

The beer of choice for Texans is Coors.

Or so says an analysis released by coffee equipment-review site Coffeeness, which looked at beer preferences nationwide using search data from Google Trends. Miller came out on top overall, ranking as the most searched brand of suds in 30 states.

Coors ranked second overall with a lead in eight states, “especially those known for warm weather and outdoor lifestyles, including Texas,” the study reports.

“Coors’ popularity in Texas merits special attention, as the state has a strong beer culture with significant local breweries,” the report also notes. Turns out Freetail and Saint Arnold don’t always hit the spot in cowboy country.

The Coors tagline “cold as the Rockies” has “helped it cultivate an image associated with the rugged beauty and outdoor lifestyle of the American West,” the study’s authors add.

Coffeeness’ report also noted Budweiser’s limited appeal nationwide even though the brand’s advertising is damn near ubiquitous.

“Despite major ad campaigns, Budweiser and Bud Light only lead in four states, likely influenced by the 2023 controversy,” the study states.

The controversy in question stemmed from the brand’s 2023 ads featuring trans woman and TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney. The campaign sparked a backlash from conservatives and led to a boycott.
