After 38 Years, Restaurant On Harry Wurzbach Is Closing

Chef Francois Maeder is closing Crumpets Restaurant and Bakery on Harry Wurzbach on September 1.

According to a press release, the chef will retire after a 40-year career with 38 of those years at the helm of Crumpets, which serves European fare.

Citing a desire to travel in his retirement, Maeder bid adieu via press release, saying, "I’ve been in the restaurant business for more than 40 years,” he says. “I’m ready to do something different. My dream is to travel a lot while continuing to explore other options that combine culinary talent with travel and exploration."

A California wine dinner is slated for Friday, August 10. Reservations can be made at (210) 821-5600.

Fans of the restaurant will have a chance to take a memento home during a retirement party, where artwork by chef and wine will be featured at reduced prices.
