When Guy Fieri really wants to go to Flavortown, he makes a stop in the Alamo City. When it comes to the celebrity chef’s Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, you could say he’s an SA frequent flyer.

Indeed, Fieri has been praising and partaking in San Antonio cuisine on TV for more than 15 years.

And he doesn’t visit just for our Tex-Mex dining institutions either. During his many trips to San Antonio, Fieri has sampled Argentinian empanadas, Moroccan tajin, Cajun food, Chicago dogs and Neopolitan-style pizza.

Though we have our fair share of diners, drive-ins and dives, we’re an international city and — don’t let the flame shirt and frosted tips fool you — this is a man of culture and taste.

OK, well, he has his moments.

Here are all the spots that Fieri has visited in San Antonio for Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

De Wese’s Tip Top Cafe 2814 Fredericksburg Road, (210) 732-0191, tiptopcafesa.com Open since 1938, Tip Top has perfected its menu over three generations of serving San Antonians. Grab a seat in the old-school diner, enjoy some classic comfort food and prepare to finish off the meal with one of the cafe’s irresistible pies. Fieri truly put the “Diner” in Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with this spot in a January 2009 episode. Credit: Facebook / De Wese's Tip Top Cafe
Dough Pizzeria Napoletana 6989 Blanco Road, (210) 979-6565, doughpizzeria.com Fieri visited Dough in February 2011 for the spot’s gussied up pizzas in an elevated setting.
