From the Tex-Mex gets its due department: Current On the Street correspondent Mark Jones sends word that L.A. Times writer Jonathan Gold has discovered puffy tacos. Not just any puffy tacos, but those produced by Arturo, brother of Henry. After a brief history of the Puffy Taco in America featuring El West Side as the nativity (from Ray’s Drive Inn to Henry’s Puffy Taco to Arturo’s Puffy Taco in Whittier), Gold rhapsodizes: “If you sluice the taco with green chile sauce and manage to eat it in the 45 seconds before it collapses into a sodden mess, the puffy taco is a transcendent creation, spicy and oily, cool and burning hot, filling yet somehow ethereal.”

The first First Friday after CAM tends to be a sleeper, but Limelight’s Casey Lange and Chef Josh Cross are dangling a Southtown lure this week: His new Mediterranean-flavored restaurant Oloroso will be serving a limited menu August 1 in the old Euphorium space at 1024 S. Alamo. It’s your chance to get a sneak peek before it grand-opens next week with a summer menu featuring roasted tomato tart, quail, duck confit, summer-bean salad, blueberry trifle, and a $30 prix fixe. Call (210) 223-3600.
