Castroville’s Blu Lacy Smokehouse is getting a major rebrand — although it appears succulent smoked meat will remain the star of the show.
The barbecue joint — owned and operated by Esaul Ramos Jr. and Joe Melig of San Antonio’s renowned 2M Smokehouse — said in a Wednesday Instagram post that it’s rebranding as Castroville BBQ Co.
“Effective Feb. 1, our beloved restaurant will unveil a refreshed identity that honors Castroville’s rich cultural heritage while embracing an exciting new direction in the barbecue industry,” said the post, which essentially confirmed that the Blu Lacy is no more.
Blu Lacy set itself apart from other Texas barbecue purveyors by offering an adjacent bakery run by Esaul’s wife Grecia Ramos.
In a separate post on 2M Smokehouse’s Instagram, the owners wrote that sweet-toothed patrons will still be able to get their Baked by Grecia fix at her storefront on 409 Paris Street in Castroville.
Thanking loyal customers for their patience during the transition, the newly minted Castroville BBQ Co. said in the Instagram announcement post that a “majority” of Blu Lacy’s staff would remain. That continuity will ensure “the same exceptional service and barbecue that has defined our restaurant,” the eatery noted.
