Six months after dreaming up a coffee shop concept on a date night, Page Pressley and Dez Rodriguez turned their vision into reality by opening Broadway’s The Newsstand last summer.

Now, the couple is expanding its portfolio with The Dispatch, a second coffee concept scheduled to open in the lobby of the the McCombs Plaza building, 755 E. Mulberry Ave. The Current was unable to confirm a grand opening date as of press time.

The Dispatch will stay true to the original shop’s community-driven ambience and also incorporate its news-driven theme, according to a statement from the owners. Espresso-based beverages, juices, matcha options and fresh pastries will fill out the menu, while the space will have room for the work-from-home set and offer grab-and-go options for professionals headed back to the office.

The Dispatch also will offer an assortment of light bites, including a kale fruit salad with seasonal fruit, Texas pecans and spiced citrus, the owners said.

According to a recent Instagram post from The Dispatch’s new account, Pressley’s and Rodriguez’s latest venture will source its coffee beans from Proud Mary, an Australian coffee company with a location in Austin.

This is the same roaster the couple uses for The Newstand, promising guests a consistent espresso experience across both locations.

Like The Newstand, the Dispatch is located in a prime area. Its location just off U.S. Highway 281 north of downtown puts it near local institutions including the Japanese Tea Garden, the Witte Museum and the San Antonio Zoo.
