With “winter” pretty much over, more sunshine and warmer days means it's farmers market season. Farmers and Artisans Market at Mission Marquee launches its season this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2.p.m.
Occuring every first and third Saturday through November, the market goes beyond your typical fresh fruits and vegetables. Visitors will get to participate in book giveaways, interactive workshops and enjoy live performances.
Being the first event of the season, the City’s Parks & Recreation Department will give away 500 free fruit and nut trees.
San Antonio Food Bank’s Mobile Mercado, a “Farmacy on Wheels,” will also be on-site. The mini grocery store on wheels includes an area where chefs and nutritionists will demonstrate how to make tasty nutritious, diabetes-conscious meals. There’s also a food truck attached to this vehicle healthy meal options using ingredients sourced from their farm.
To round out the wellness vibe, the Harvey E. Najim Family YMCA will host free community fitness classes at their location, 3122 Roosevelt Ave. on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Free, Sat March 3, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (every first and third Sat through Nov.), 3100 Roosevelt, (210) 207-8612.
