The new owners of San Antonio’s biggest brewery, Alamo Beer Co., are reopening its East Side taproom on the Fourth of July following five months of renovations.

The revival of the homegrown craft-beer brand marks a milestone under the ownership of Australian private-equity firm SKJ Capital, which bought the 29-year-old brewer last year out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.

Alamo Beer filed for bankruptcy reorganization in February 2025 as it struggled with rising expenses and a consumer shift away from beer purchases. SKJ bought the business later in the year, marking its first U.S. purchase.

SKJ CEO Jason Pond said his company invested heavily in the upgrades “while staying true to what made Alamo Beer Co. special in the first place.”

The new ownership began a modernization and renovation project in February for both the brewery and its taproom. On July 4, taproom visitors can expect to sample Alamo Beer’s classic lineup alongside brands the Aussie management is bringing to the reopening. Viva Beer and ShotGun Seltzer, two brands acquired by Alamo Beer prior to SKJ’s investment, will still be available.

“We’re bringing Alamo Beer recipes to Australia,” Melody Selby, marketing manager for SKJ Capital and Alamo Beer, told the San Antonio Report. “It’s going to be an Alamo Beer Co. with an Aussie flair to it.”

SKJ Capital owns a brewery in Australia and will bring Alamo Beer brands down under, expanding the San Antonio company’s global reach.

Alamo Beer’s reopening will run noon to 10 p.m. July 4 and feature live entertainment and family-friendly activities. While SKJ officials promise new beer offerings alongside the SA brand’s familiar lineup, they emphasized that they’re staying loyal its originality.
