The landlord for Unko Maui’s Burgers has locked the business out of its Deco District space after less than a year in operation, according to a document affixed to its front door.

The notice posted on behalf of the property’s California-based owner, BIODEC LLC, accuses the restaurant of defaulting on its lease. The paperwork is undated and doesn’t state how much the eatery owes.

Google lists Unko Maui’s, 1815 Fredericksburg Road, as temporarily closed.

Last spring, Unko Maui’s moved into the distinctive Mission-style building that previously housed Deco Pizzeria. The new dining spot was an outgrowth of Maui’s on Main, restaurant that opened in early 2024 near Crockett Park, north of downtown.

While the menu at Maui’s on Main featured a mix of Hawaiian dishes, burgers and coastal items such as fish tacos, Unko Maui’s primarily focused on burgers, fries and shakes.

Both Unko Maui’s owners and TIG Real Estate Services, the Austin-based firm that manages the Deco District building, were unavailable for comment at press time.
