Broadway-corridor neighborhood eatery and coffee shop The Newstand is expanding with a second location called The Dispatch, slated to open on Tuesday, April 14, according to its owners.
The newest outpost from The Newstand co-founders Page Pressley and Dez Rodriguez can be found in the lobby of McCombs Plaza office tower, 755 E. Mulberry Ave. Eager coffee fans can check out The Dispatch as early as 7 a.m. grand opening day. It will operate 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Menu-wise, The Dispatch will offer many of the items The Newstand has become known for, including a variety of coffee options, specialty matcha drinks, smoothies and more. Some highlights include a matcha latte with fresh Texas peaches and vanilla bean cold foam (cheekily named Just Peachy); the Texas Sun smoothie with orange, ginger, pineapple and a kick of habanero; and the fittingly named Red Eye coffee cake for early risers.
Pressley and Rodriguez also stayed true to their mission of community with The Dispatch. They worked with local brands including Southtown Supply Co., By Studio RH and Chase Coffee Co. for merchandise, furniture design and coffee equipment, respectively. All of the aforementioned companies are locally owned and operated.
The Newstand opened in May 2024, following a conversation Pressley and Rodriguez had on a date in the winter of 2023. As the couple previously told the Current, the turnaround from idea to reality was swift, resulting in a strong, community-focused concept that was a natural fit for an expansion.
The couple’s original store is located at 1900 Broadway, Suite 106.
