A recently opened speakeasy in New Braunfels is inviting guests to test their luck to win a free meal.
Sidecar, located in the basement of the boutique Prince Solms Inn, 295 E. San Antonio St., is inviting high rollers to rattle the dice and say a prayer to Lady Luck at the bar’s High Stakes Happy Hour.
From 4-6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, parties of 10 or fewer will be presented with the bar’s “Dice Roll” box when the check comes. One person from the party has the chance to test their luck with a simple roll of a die. If the die lands on a 6, the bar will comp the entire check.
That’s right: the whole tab.
Certain rules apply. For example, there’s still an automatic 20% gratuity on winning tabs and the High-Stakes Happy Hour deal only applies to food and drink ordered before 6 p.m. Only one dice roll is allowed per party, and the house provides the die that’s cast.
Gamblers better visit soon, though, since this game of chance is available for a limited time only.
In addition to the high-stakes experience, Sidecar will offer its regular happy hour deals, including classic cocktails, draft beers, and wine — all at happy hour pricing.
The speakeasy’s delightfully vintage signature cocktail menu also includes chartreuse-based tipples as well as others that are infused with chamomile, lavender bitters and other unexpected ingredients.
But perhaps the most outlandish entry on the drink menu is the Maized and Confused, a tequila and Fernet- based creation with coffee liqueur and lemon topped with creamed corn. (Yes, really.)
The bar’s vittles include seafood, charcuterie, sliders and shareable plates.
Heck, the place even boasts a cigar menu. And for those who win its game of chance, a victory cigar may well be in order.
