A Perfect Day Wine Bar — originally the sister concept to rock ‘n’ roll-inspired Southtown cocktail lounge Gimme Gimme — has been reconfigured into the second San Antonio location of Friends of Sound Records.
Gimme Gimme patrons now will be able to grab a drink and browse vintage vinyl at the connected Friends of Sound, bar co-founder Aaron Peña told the Current. They’ll be able to pass back and forth between the two concepts via a short hallway.
Gimme Gimme’s cocktail menu ranges from classics such as daiquiris and Negronis to signature sips and frozen drinks along with wine and beer. The Southtown haunt, 803 S. St. Mary’s St. also features weekly food specials, including a popular Wednesday steak night with ribeye au poivre and duck fat fries for $28.
“For us it was an easy decision,” Peña said of the record store addition. “The Perfect Day space was secondary to Gimme Gimme, and we wanted to activate it with something that would compliment the synergy and flow of Gimme Gimme.”
Having recently relocated its original San Antonio location to 823 Fredericksburg Road, Friends of Sound Records’ second Alamo City represents a unique milestone, according to Peña.
“It’s the first bar in San Antonio with a built-in record shop,” he said.
Given Gimme Gimme’s rock ‘n’ roll orientation, Peña said the concept makes a “perfect fit.”
“As records nerds ourselves, [we loved] to think we could have the first full bar with a built-in record shop [in San Antonio],” he added.
