“Dear friends, it is with an immense amount of gratitude that we are announcing our final day of service will be Monday, 12/30,” the owners of the east-of-downtown barbecue spot said Thursday in a social media post.
Co-founded by Denise Aguirre, Noel Cisneros, Shane Reed and Andrew Samia — the latter a partner in Curry Boys BBQ — Dignowity Meats opened in late 2014. The restaurant became a center-city lunchtime staple and was featured on the Food Network series Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
Brisket burnt ends played a starring role in the menu at the straightforward barbecue joint at 1701 E. Houston St. The smoky, caramelized pieces of meat played roles in Dignowity’s famous burnt-end sliders and in its cheesy burnt-end melt on toasted ciabatta bread.
Dignowity’s Eastside hot chicken, an homage to the neighborhood it called home for 10 years, featured a fried chicken quarter dipped in scratch-made red pepper sauce.
“If you would have told me 10 years ago all of the amazing things we would accomplish or how many beautiful humans this journey would lead us to meet, I would have said you were crazy,” the restaurant’s closure announcement said.
Thanking locals for all their support over a decade of business, Dignowity Meats’ post concluded with a simple, “With love, always.”
