Popular brunch spot Cullum’s Attaboy entered uncharted territory this week with an ambitious new dinner menu, and it’s already racking up rave reviews.

Sticking with its reputation as an elevated diner, the eatery’s new nighttime menu ranges from hamburgers and custard ice cream to escargot, caviar “bumps” and a catch of the day sautéed in beurre noisette, or brown butter.

“Never had a doubt that they would knock it out of the park, even on the first night. But didn’t know it was gonna be a grand slam,” tattooer Alex Kass posted to his Instagram story, showing off Cullum’s duck bigarade, potato aligot and a dessert of chocolate mousse with vanilla cream, biscoff and orange.

Cullum’s, 111 Kings Court, is used to racking up the attaboys, especially for its brunch, which earned raves from the Current early last year, landed on an Express-News list of the top ten brunches in San Antonio and was named the city’s best brunch by San Antonio Magazine.

The  burgers have also been recognized as some of the best in the state by Texas Highways magazine. Additionally, its chef Christopher Cullum was a James Beard semifinalist for Best Chef in Texas. Sheesh. The “attaboy” might be referring to some latent praise kink, but we digress.

While we’re at it, Cullum’s also received a glowing review from Texas Monthly, which wrote “don’t let the chef’s soda jerk hat fool you” and called the spot “more Paris bistro than San Antonio diner.”

If the escargot could talk, it would agree.

Half of the dinner menu is devoted to cocktails and other drinks you won’t find on the soda fountain, including the Momisette, a classic French cocktail with pernod, orgeat and perrier. Other specialties include the house margarita and the Champs-Élysées, a Parisian cocktail named after the “most beautiful avenue in the world” that includes both cognac and green Chartreuse.
Dinner hours run 5-9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
