The long-running fixture in The Rim shopping center, 7711 I-10 West #101, revealed its closure in an Instagram post simply titled “Goodbye San Antonio.“
“After many wonderful years of serving this amazing city, the time has come for us to close our doors,” the post stated.
The message gave no reason for the restaurant’s departure, and the Current was unable to reach Tiago’s management by press time.
Known for its coastal Mexican fare, Tiago’s was co-founded in 2007 by Matt Charbonneau and Sea Island Shrimp House’s Barclay Anthony. The restaurant served Tex-Mex favorites including asada tacos and enchiladas along with seaside-inspired fare such as Cabo fried shrimp and red snapper Zarandeado. Its decadent Mexican chocolate cake also earned a cult following.
Grupo Orraca — the team behind Salsita Drinks & Tacos near the Pearl — acquired Tiago’s in March.
The new ownership recently teased a new concept at The Rim: “Taquitos loading … Opening soon!” as reported by CultureMap San Antonio. However, it’s unclear whether that means Grupo Orraca plans to opening a new concept in the shuttered Tiago’s space.
The Current reached out to Grupo Orraca for comment but got no response by press time.
