Cheesesteak chain Texadelphia on Sunday closed its Babcock Road location, saying in a Facebook post earlier in the week that its lease was up and officials decided not to renew.

The restaurant, housed in The Strand shopping center, was the only San Antonio location for the Austin-based business. Now, the closest Texadelphia is in the South Austin suburb of Sunset Valley.

The chain has disappeared and reappeared in San Antonio over the years, according to a 2020 San Antonio Business Journal report. An earlier foray into the Alamo City was located at U.S. Highway 281 and Bitters Road. That location closed about 12 years ago.

Texadelphia offers the standard Philly cheesesteak as well as menu items that put a Texas spin on the dish. Those include the Southwestern, loaded with steak, pico de gallo, avocado and pepper jack cheese. Then there’s also the Texican, a Tejano cheesesteak with mozzarella, jalapeños and queso.

The Strand outpost started serving customers in 2020. The company didn’t say whether this would be the last San Antonio sees of Texadelphia, or if this is just “See ya’ll later.”
