The directives define just who’s in charge in case of a catastrophic emergency (which people are starting to anticipate now that the Dems are looking so damn good for Chief Exec 2008). Historically, directives like this come after events like Oklahoma City and 9/11, but what’s scary about the current order is its lack of timeliness and broad interpretation of “catastrophic emergency,” allowing W & Co. to determine course for all federal, state, local, and tribal governments (gulp). Has Bush come up with a way to hold onto the reigns through 2008?
| Denver, Colorado (AP future wire) — The 2008 Democratic National Convention went as scheduled, with money-grubbing candidates promoting themselves with empty rhetoric, while candidates like Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel were pushed aside by the party’s “mainstream” base.
But on the second night of the convention, Hilary Clinton, John Edwards, and Barack Obama were evacuated from Denver and taken to the secure Cheyenne Mountain facility about 80 minutes south in Colorado Springs. Their security teams were alone in receiving murky warnings of a “terror plot” from D.C. … At 9:30 p.m. Mountain Time, about two hours after tragedy struck, President Bush addressed the nation. He expressed deep sadness for the candidates and civilians lost in the attack, which, according to “counter-intelligence,” was planned by Iranian Al-Qaeda forces. Bush claimed that they’d infiltrated a San Antonio Bioterror Lab, using U.S. weapons to perpetrate their “cowardly act of terror.” Assuring the American people their response would be swift and stern, Bush declared a “catastrophic emergency,” and brought in a “Continuity Team” to ensure proper response. The bombing of Tehran started the next day … Within the week, the American people learned that the “catastrophic emergency” had hastened the declaration of Martial Law, and that Bush and Cheney suspended the 2008 elections until they determined the crisis was over. Soon after, pandemonium engulfed the nation as the U.S. dollar collapsed, and with a shortage of National Guard troops, Blackwater USA employees were tasked with riot control and domestic operations. UN troops deployed to the U.S., confiscating guns from citizens. And during it all, Clinton, Edwards, and Obama remained safely stowed away in secret bomb shelters … |
