Signature, the Michelin-recognized restaurant led by chef John Carpenter at La Cantera Resort and Spa and The Study at Dean’s at the Kimpton Santo Hotel both made the list, which focused on the nation’s best-reviewed hotel bars and restaurants.
The roundup wasn’t sorted numerically, but rather by state. That means the two San Antonio eateries were featured in the Texas category alongside seven other dining and drinking spots spread between Austin, Fort Worth, Dallas and Frisco.
Both Alamo City establishments highlighted on the list offer distinctly different experiences for locals and visitors alike.
The Study at Dean’s delivers a refined, speakeasy-style ambiance. Paying tribute to the Kimpton Santo Hotel’s origins as a 19th-century German schoolhouse, the bar serves up literary-inspired cocktails with nods to classics such as The Great Gatsby. It’s an ideal stop for cocktail aficionados — and for those seeking a full meal, Dean’s Steakhouse & Seafood is steps away, located just across the courtyard.
Signature has been a staple of the La Cantera Resort & Spa experience since the restaurant opened in 2016. Carpenter’s masterful menu pays tribute to seasonal slices of Americana — think prime beef tenderloin with a red wine jus, Spanish octopus with squid ink arancini, scallops with saffron and bergamot and other sophisticated dishes. Signature caught the attention of Michelin Guide inspectors last year, earning a nod on the first-ever Texas Michelin Guide.
To curate the list, researchers scoured through more than 10 million reviews from OpenTable diners from June 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025. The highest-ranked restaurants were then sorted to ensure Kayak users could make bookings at their associated restaurants via the company’s website.
