Facbook, The Dig
When I read buzzwords like “craft,” “hand-crafted,” “indie,” “artisan,” juxtaposed to places like Brooklyn or LA, my immediate response is to simultaneously vomit and cry. So, when I came across a press release that read something like “Brooklyn indie/psych rockers, The Dig are playing Limelight,” my knee-jerk reaction was sarcastic, but I gave them a listen anyway, and I’m glad I did.

Combining tones and textures from bands like The Shins and Yeasayer for a sound that’s probably more indie pop than psychedelic, The Dig was a pleasant surprise despite being in a genre that’s more saturated than the saturated fat in your chorizo con huevo plate. On the heels of a newly released album Bloodshot Tokyo, this New York City four-piece will be a great warm up to the busy weekend of music.

With Kolars, Friday, September 29, $6-$10, 830pm, Limelight, 2718 N. St. Mary’s St., thelimelightsa.com.
