The last time darkwave duo Drab Majesty were in town they were opening for ice-cold heart-throb Cold Cave at Paper Tiger. I definitely was there in all black (and black lipstick, naturally) and recall Drab Majesty wearing mime-looking makeup, long coats and sci-fi sleek sunglasses as they playing through an hour set of thick, reverberating guitar-forward darkwave tracks laced with the icy cold blast of synths.
The vibe on that cool, February day was magical and the perfect soundtrack for a gothed-out looking audience that was ready to dance to death in their uniform black leather jackets. Also on the bill is SRSQ, a continuation of musician Kennedy Ashlyn’s former project, Them Are Us Too, whose tracks are punctuated with washed out female vocals, driving electro beats and psychedelic transitions that spiral out into the ether.
Friday, September 8, $10, 9pm, Paper Tiger, 2410 N. St. Mary’s St., papertigersatx.com.
