Although it’s tempting to stay indoors right now to beat the heat, SA music fans may want to sweat a little given the strength of this week’s bills featuring talented touring and local acts. Let’s take a look.

Sunjammer, John Charlie’s Heavy Love, Spectral Geezers
Local freak-folk rockers Sunjammer are holding the release party for their upcoming single, “New Bird.” As the name suggests, the band gets pretty jammy on many of their psych-tinged tracks, updating a Grateful Dead-inspired template with astringent indie vocals. The group will be joined by John Charlie’s Heavy Love, whose frontman John Dailey also contributes keyboard, Wurlitzer and organ to Sunjammer’s sound. Heavy Love is a jangle-pop love letter to ’60s and ’70s folk-leaning acts such as Harry Nilsson, The Beatles and the Beach Boys — but with surreal stage shows that verge on those of Flaming Lips or Polyphonic Spree. Spectral Geezers, a musical project by Torin Metz and Justin Boyd, will open the evening, and DT Liquid Lights will make the whole thing extra trippy. Free, 7 p.m., Lonesome Rose, 2114 N. St. Mary’s St., (210) 455-0233, thelonesomerosesa.com. — Stephanie Koithan

Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Milestne, Morning In May
St. Mary’s Street haunt Paper Tiger offers a great opportunity to catching the blazing emo-rock of the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus in an intimate venue. The Florida-based band rose to prominence in the early aughts, and its major label debut Don’t Fake It remains at the band’s apex thanks to a strong collection of songs including the single “Face Down.” Not content to rest on laurels, RJA released a new single, “Slipping Through (No Kings),” that will be on a forthcoming sixth studio album, NOW. $23.51, 7 p.m., Paper Tiger, 2410 N. St. Mary’s St., papertigersatx.com. — Danny Cervantes
The Texases
Let’s go honky tonkin’, honey baby. The Texases are back to play all your classic country faves and do it right, from Merle and Willie to George and Garth. These San Antonio boys typically perform solid-gold country for a solid three hours, ensuring plenty of time to scoot a boot. $14-$31 and up, 7 p.m., Stable Hall, 307 Pearl Parkway, stablehall.com. — SK
Monte Montgomery
Alabama-born and San Antonio-raised Monte Montgomery has gained fame not just as a singer-songwriter but also for his ability to shred on an acoustic guitar. Guitar World magazine even named Montgomery one of the top 50 all-time six-string greats. Montgomery is a dozen albums deep into a career that’s blurred the lines between acoustic rock, blues and pop while at the same time penning tunes for TV. $26, 8 p.m., Sam’s Burger Joint, 330 E. Grayson St., (210) 223-2830, samsburgerjoint.com. — Bill Baird

Mothé, Farmer’s Wife
Mothé makes reasonably catchy synthy pop, but it’s the artist’s high-energy, over-the-top live performances where the songs truly come to life. The LA-based performer is in town for the Total Popstar tour, and regardless of whether the name is intended in jest, it tells us to expect pop and fun. Farmer’s Wife, one of the most buzzed-about new Austin bands, specializes in heavy, fuzzy and damned good rock. $22, 8 p.m., Paper Tiger, 2410 N. St. Mary’s St., papertigersatx.com. — BB
