Texas country singer-songwriter Charley Crockett has cancelled his entire Canadian tour after being denied entry into the country over his criminal record.

Canadian fans of Texas country were disappointed Saturday when Crockett’s Vancouver show was postponed right before he was set to take the stage at the Orpheum. Though the cause was unknown at the time, Crockett has since been revealed that he was denied entry due to an old drug charge.

The Rio Grande Valley native, who skyrocketed to alt-country fame thanks to hits including “Hard Luck and Circumstances” and “$10 Cowboy,” cancelled within hours of the Vancouver performance, citing “unforeseen circumstances” in a since-deleted social media post. However, he didn’t offer a specific reason.

Fans commenting on the post expressed disappointment, some saying they flew in from elsewhere and booked hotel rooms to see Crockett perform. Others expressed worry about his wellbeing and hoped he was OK.

However, some correctly guessed that he was denied entry at the border.

On Monday morning, Crockett shared a new social media post clarifying the cause for the sudden postponement.

Crockett was convicted in 2016 with felony drug trafficking charges after cops pulled him over in Virginia with 6.6 pounds of marijuana in his trunk, according to multiple news reports. He spent approximately a month in a Virginia jail before being released on bond.

Ten years later, his past is still chasing him. All the way to Canada.

“Everybody’s got a past. Mine’s still haunting me,” the singer said in his Monday Instagram post.

Crockett said he was denied entry into Canada twice within 24 hours — once in Vancouver and once in Kelowna. After that, he realized the party was over.

“I’ve been advised that it would jeopardize my freedom to try and enter again,” he added.

As a result, Crockett said he was “deeply sorry” to announce the cancellation of his entire Canadian tour, which included eight additional dates.

“I know this doesn’t begin to make up for y’all’s time and hard earned money,” Crockett added. “I know I let y’all down.”

Crockett added that fans can expect full refunds for the canceled shows, saying he plans to be back in Canada soon.

“I ain’t one to quit,” he added.
