Legendary LA hardcore punk band Black Flag is playing San Antonio’s Paper Tiger on Thursday, Dec. 5, as a stop on its First Four Years tour.

The tour features songs from the 1983 Black Flag double album of the same name, which collected material from the band’s early days before Henry Rollins joined as its magnetic frontman.

In its current iteration, Black Flag includes only one founding member, guitarist Greg Ginn, who’s served as leader and primary songwriter since its 1976 inception. More broadly, Ginn’s playing style helped define the ’80s West Coast punk sound.

The current incarnation of the band also consists of singer Mike Vallely who joined in 2013, drummer Charles Wiley who joined in 2022 and bassist Austin Sears who came on board last year.

The First Four Years Tour started in May and included stops throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.

San Antonio is part of an extension of the tour, which was originally set to wrap up at the end of August in Jefferson, Louisiana. However, even when the tour was announced this spring, the band expected to announce additional dates later on.

$27, 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, Paper Tiger, 2410 N. St. Mary’s St., papertigersatx.com.
