Twenty-one years in, Ram Jam is still doing what it does best: packing the stage with San Antonio misfits, lifers and underground legends to honor Taco Land icon Ramiro “Ram” Ayala.

Scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, June 20-21, at the Corn Pound, the event will include live performances by bands including Buttercup, Thunder Horse, The Infidels, Los #3 Dinners, Hickoids, Donella Drive, Mechanical Walking Robot Boy and Snowbyrd, plus a reunion of the White Heat.

An outdoor screening of the documentary The Sons of Hercules: Three Decades of Spittin’ Fire will also close out the first night.

Ram Jam originated in 2005 to pay tribute to Taco Land proprietor Ayala and doorman Doug “Gypsy Doug” Morgan, both of whom died in a shooting at the bar.

For the uninitiated, Ayala’s nightspot near the Pearl Brewery emerged as one of Texas’ longest-running — and most colorful — punk and underground music venues. During its decades-long run, the club hosted acts as varied as GWAR, the Jesus Lizard, Yo La Tengo, the Dead Milkmen and El Vez.

In addition to the stacked musical bill, this year’s Ram Jam will feature live art performances, vendor booths, DJ sets and plenty of camaraderie for SA scenesters eager to celebrate the man who opened his club to generations of DIY musicians.

Free (donations accepted), noon-11:15 p.m. Saturday, June 20, noon-8:50 p.m. Sunday, June 21, The Corn Pound, 6336 Montgomery Drive, facebook.com/nightrockerpresents.
