Erik Sanden gained local acclaim as frontman for popular bands, most notably Buttercup. But there’s a (sorta) first time for everything, even for this author of 300+ songs. Every Tuesday in May at the Liberty Bar, Sanden will perform solo, something that’s only happened once before in SA. Sanden says he’ll be story-telling as much as singing. “Picture Morrissey trying to be Frank Sinatra combined with Leonard Cohen trying to be Emily Dickinson: quiet, intimate, poetic, candle-lit, unpredictable,” Sanden explains. His performances will include songs from Buttercup, Demitasse, and Grand Marais, as well as special guests, in the hopes of attracting adults who want “to pay attention to music, to eat good food, and drink quality drinks, and go home happy, without getting in a fight with their date,” as Sanden puts it. Free, 7:30-9:30pm Tuesday, Liberty Bar, 1111 S Alamo, liberty-bar.com. Check out our full online calendar of upcoming events here: calendar.sacurrent.com.
