Reverb laden pedal-steel guitars, bright and twangy-Fender licks, and even some banjo-work will be filling the Paper Tiger complex this Wednesday evening as the Athens, Georgia based five-piece band, Futurebirds, prepares to glide into San Antonio with their broad range of alternative country rock sounds spiked with a tinge of psychedelic auras.
The fellows have certainly accomplished a lot in the eight years since their 2008 origins by sharpening their chops for western harmonies, bouncy hoedowns, and pensive ballads across three albums, two EPs, and of course extensive touring. Having debuted in 2015, the eleven track full-length, Hotel Parties, represents the newest of these releases which the band will be continuing to support for this show and their sixteen-date tour.
Taking on slightly darker and more complex tonalities than some of their previous releases with songs like “Deadbeat Hits” and “Paranoia Letters”, the album still touches on the down-home qualities at the root of the bands easygoing vibes, sounds, and character while melding well with an upbeat performance sure to strike a chord with any indie, country, and rock-loving fans in Wednesday’s audience.
