Artpace keeps local artists from turning Into starving artists

Artpace San Antonio announced its 2007 Travel Grant recipients this week. The grant doubled this year to $5,000 and supports "an ongoing dialogue between local artists and the international art community." This year, the money will support the travels of four San Antonio artists: Sabra Booth, Margaret Craig, Mimi Kato, and Chris Sauter.

Each artist plans on spending their funds a little differently. Booth, an UIW adjunct instructor, travels to Finland this Fall for two residencies, the Nelimarkka Residence and the Majala Artists Residence. Craig, Chair of Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking at the Southwest School of Art and Craft will spend her summer in China at the Sanbao International Printmaking Exhibition Symposium. Kato, an UTSA instructor, heads to Ireland to set up a solo exhibition at the Ballina Arts Center. Sauter will take part in a two-month residency in Mexico City.
