The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) has arrested one of its own on charges that he assaulted another deputy with whom he had a relationship, KSAT reports.
Deputy Abel Munoz Sifuentes, 29, was taken into custody Thursday and now faces charges of assault causing bodily injury to a family member, the TV station reports, citing court records. He was an eight-year BCSO veteran.
BCSO officials learned about the assault during an exit interview with the female deputy with whom Sifuentes was involved, KSAT reports. The woman, who resigned from the office, was reportedly with Sifuentes for four years, and the pair have a child.
The woman told investigators that in May 2024, Sifuentes awoke her as she slept, grabbed her by the shirt and pushed her against a wall, resulting in injury, according to the TV station. She also alleged that he struck her face.
The woman shared photos of her injuries with investigators, KSAT reports.
BCSO officials told KSAT that they placed Sifuentes under arrest while he was on duty and that he’s now on administrative leave.
“Our Public Integrity Unit acted swiftly upon uncovering these allegations to make the arrest,” Sheriff Javier Salazar said in a statement. “Domestic violence has no place in society, much less in law enforcement. We have already started dismissal proceedings against this soon-to-be former employee.”
