Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

Critic's Pick Release Date: 2010-09-22

After more than a decade, it’s easy to forget that this California group was one of the first to lay down noisy, fuzzy, revival blues rock so favored now by the Black Keys, the White Stripes, and a million colorful groups in between. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club infuses its approach with a droning adherence to garage production and swaggering drums lately propelled by veteran noise-rocker Leah Shapiro (Dead Combo, Raveonettes). Over the last 10 years, BRMC has delved into roots rock on Howl, electronica on The Effects of 333, but returned to its crunchy, distorted home base on this year’s Beat the Devil’s Tattoo. The quartet that heralded the return of leather jackets and smoke-filled lungs to rock ‘n’ roll is now re-staking its claim to a scene it helped create, the proto-retro-rockers, if you will. $18-$20, 7pm Thu, Sept 23, The White Rabbit, 2410 N. St. Mary’s St., 737-2221, sawhiterabbit.com
