Tony Ayala Jr., a promising boxer who spent the prime of his life in prison for raping a neighbor at knife-point, was found dead in his family’s West Side gym last May.
The San Antonio Express-News reports that the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Thursday that Ayala died from “heroin toxicity.”
According to a police report, he was found with a needle in his arm filled with narcotics, with a ball of heroin on the table next to his body. Originally reported as cardiac arrest, the police report indicated “the cause of death appears to be an overdose.”
