Jane "Janie" Austin, RV damage

The wicked Texas weather has destroyed more than property. San Antonio resident and beloved storyteller Jane "Janie" Austin needs the community to give back to her in a time of crisis.

On April 12, Austin's RV, her home, was devastated by hail, tree and water damage. The hail punctured massive holes through the roof, vents, skylight and awning, while the water damaged her clothing and irreplaceable personal effects. With no surviving family, Janie will continue to be homeless without the help of the community.

Before his death in 2000, Janie was married to ventriloquist Ray Austin, well-known as Buddy McBride. His renowned talents for throwing his voice were cemented in pop culture after an appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. Austin and his wife toured the country's extensive Vaudeville circuit and then cruise ships throughout their career.

The GoFundMe page, created on May 15, can be visited here. The goal being to raise $5,000 for a replacement RV for Janie in a matter of days.

Austin can continue telling stories about performing and traveling with her late husband to help keep the memories of the past alive, but here's an opportunity for her city to help preserve those memories of yesterday, and inspire a better tomorrow.
