ON THE COVER
Draw it like it is Jeremy Martin’s comic book review of Army@Love `Straight Shooter, May 9-15` hits our empire’s propaganda nail on its covert head. His insight into the realities of our military personnel (“disadvantaged teens or misguided patriots”) shows up Memorial Day/Veterans Day rhetoric for what it is: We make them victims and call them heroes. TOM KEENE, SAN ANTONIO WEB COMMENTS Re: Mex in Manhattan, posted May 29, 2007 Bravo!! What an excellent article! Im glad you brought on Mario’s wit and old world charm. Re: “Billing me softly,” posted May 29, 2007 An Alternative to Hospital Emergency Rooms Brent Evans should have gone to the nearest Texas Med Clinic instead of to the hospital emergency room. Last week a heavy floor safe lid fell on my hand. My husband took me to the nearest TX Med Clinic, where I had to wait a mere ten minutes before seeing Dr. Juan Garza. When I left an hour and a half later, I paid $438 for the 12 stitches, 3 x-rays, and tetanus shot. This isn’t my first positive experience, either. Almost seven years ago, when I went over the handlebars of my bike on a Sunday morning, the same clinic stablized my fractured elbow, set me up with a surgeon, did multiple x-rays, and cleaned up my lacerated chin. Especially for the uninsured, TX Med Clinic is a reasonable alternative to the hospital emergency room. They even call the next day to see how you’re doing. Susan Conrad, San Antonio, TX
