Netflix co-founder funnels money into San Antonio political races through PAC

Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings has waded into the San Antonio city politics by funneling donations to several candidates through a political action committee (PAC).

The donations, ranging from $500 to $1000, were distributed through a PAC called Families for Education and Opportunity, documents show.

There’s scant informaiton about the PAC online. However, in Texas Ethics Commission filings, the PAC lists Daiana Lambrecht as its treasurer. Lambrecht is the executive director of Futuro San Antonio, a coalition that fosters collaboration between public and charter schools. Previously, Lambrecht served as a director of Rocketship, a nonprofit network of elementary charter schools.

Reed’s total contribution to the PAC amounted to $75,000, according to Texas Ethics Commission documents.

Here’s a rundown of candidates who received money from Families for Education and Opportunity.

Mayoral race:
Beto Altamirano: $1,000
Adriana Rocha Garcia: $1,000
Gina Ortiz Jones: $1,000
Rolando Pablos: $1,000
Manny Pelaez: $1,000

City Council District 1:
Sukh Kaur: $500

City Council District 7:
Marina Alderete Gavito: $500

City Council District 10:
Marc Whyte: $500
The filings were released Wednesday by Infuse SA, a right-leaning local political group focused on campaign finance sleuthing. Chris Baecker, a candidate for to represent District 6 on City Council, has served as editor and policy director of Infuse SA for the past four years. He’s run unsuccessfully for the same council seat the past two election cycles.
