Otep, Ill Nino, Walls of Jericho, Brotherhood, & Sister Sin

Release Date: 2008-11-19

OTEP storms through San Antonio as the headliner this go-round, after last year’s release of their third full-length, The Ascension, which defied classification with a new landscape of sound and vision. Frontwoman Otep Shamaya was a poet and artist prior to forming the band as an outlet for her dissatisfaction with life, and brings a female perspective and attitude to her live performances and lyrics. She’s an intense howler in a petite package, known for heavy screaming, gritty lyrics, and spoken word. Shamaya has always been one of music’s catalysts for social change, noted for activism concerning Darfur, Myanmar, and women’s rights in the Middle East. This year OTEP performed at the Democratic National Convention after winning a MySpace Voter Registration Contest, and Shamaya was asked by Rock the Vote to deliver a bi-partisan speech on the importance of voting. $19.50/24, 7pm, Scout Bar, 19314 Hwy. 281 N., (210) 494-7700.
